Gym teacher gets 220-year term for sex abuse of minors
A Piraeus court on Friday passed down a 220-year prison sentence on a 48-year-old physical education teacher for the repeated sexual abuse of 53 minors in the Cretan port of Rethymno.
The teacher, who had originally faced a 401-year term, has also been stripped of his right to vote and to stand in elections for five years.
The court ruled that the 48-year-old abused his position of influence and power for his own sexual satisfaction. It said the sentence cannot be appealed.
The teacher was transferred back to Trikala Prison in central Greece where he had been previously detained though it remained whether he would serve his sentence there.
