Data on courtesy cars for politicians submitted to Parl’t

Under pressure by the troika to cut spending and boost transparency, Administrative Reform Minister Antonis Manitakis yesterday submitted to Parliament data regarding state cards given to politicians and other high-ranking state officials.

A total of 153 state vehicles are currently in the ministry’s fleet, 70 of which are for the needs of the country’s political leadership.

Courtesy vehicles are extended to President Karolos Papoulias, the leaders of all parties represented in Parliament, ministers and deputy ministers, and senior judicial officials. A state car is also given to Archbishop Ieronymos.

Last year, a total of 269,122 euros were spent on running and maintaining these vehicles. Of this total, 91,623 euros was spent on fuel and 35,672 euros on maintenance, Manitakis said.
