Verhofstadt urges Greece to take reforms
Guy Verhofstadt, President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) Group in the European Parliament, on Saturday urged Greece to introduce “real reforms” while slamming the conservative-led administration for simply following the diktats of the country’s foreign creditors.
The former Belgian premier was speaking at the opening of pro-business Drasi’s two-day conference in Athens, which is aimed at kickstarting the political fortunes of the party now under the leadership of Antypas Karipoglou.
Drasi, which gained 1.8 percent of the vote in last May’s national elections and 1.6 as part of an alliance with Recreate Greece in the ensuing June ballot, has invited “all progressive citizens, center-leftists, center-rightists, social democrats, liberals, modernizers and realists” to join the discussion.
