Man, 40, arrested in Athens for impersonating policeman and assaulting schoolgirls

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Athens on suspicion of impersonating a police officer so he could sexually assault schoolgirls.

Police said on Monday that the suspect, an employee at a private company, was arrested on Saturday after assaulting a young girl in Petralona, southern Athens.

The suspect allegedly followed schoolgirls home and then, pretending to be a police officer who wanted to question them, assaulted them.

Police are linking the suspect to 21 attacks carried out over the last five years.

He is known to the police as he was arrested twice between 1995 and 2005.
