Greece seeking legal advice over sale of Onassis’s Skorpios island to Rybolovlev

The Finance Ministry has referred to the Legal Council of the State the issue of the sale of the island of Skorpios, once owned by shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis.

The island was sold earlier this year to Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, who reportedly bought it for his daughter Ekaterina.

Greek media has reported that Rybolovlev is currently visiting the island with friends and has begun work on restoring the buildings already on the land.

Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras was responding to question from New Democracy MP Yiannis Michelakis, who claimed that Onassis had left specific instructions in his will about what should happen to the island if his family sells it.
