Turkey’s Islamist PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan waves from the balcony of the Thessaloniki house where Kemal Ataturk, founder of the modern Turkish state, was born. Erdogan visited the house on Saturday after attending the EU summit in Halkidiki. The building houses Turkey’s consulate in Thessaloniki, which was liberated from the Turks in 1912.
