Coast guards seize nearly 16 kg heroin hidden in camper van

Coast guard officers in the northwestern Greek port of Igoumenitsa on Tuesday found and confiscated 15.6 kilogram of heroin from a camper van that was headed to Italy.

During a routine check on the travel vehicle, drug squad and coast guard officers found several packages of heroin stashed in the doors, while a drug detection dog sniffed out an additional six packages of the narcotic in a hidden compartment beneath the refrigerator.

The 66-year-old Turkish driver of the vehicle and his 20-year-old Bosnian companion have been arrested and are being questioned.

The camper van is said to have been rented in Athens and was heading for the Italian port of Ancona.
