Attica police net suspect in at least 18 armed robberies

A 43-year-old suspected member of a criminal racket believed to be behind at least 18 armed robberies that netted more than 2 million euros and led to three shootouts with police, injuring three officers, was arrested at a house in Aghios Andreas in northeastern Attica, police said on Tuesday.

One of the shootouts occurred after a bank raid in Kalamata, in the Peloponnese, early last month, when the fleeing assailants had fired at officers pursuing them with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and a shotgun.
