Police officers to patrol trains in new initiative

Special police units are to be assigned to patrol train carriages serving the Athens suburban railway (Proastiakos) and the broader network of the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE), according to a joint decision involving several ministries and the Greek Police that was made public on Tuesday.

Apart from the train carriages, the officers will also be inspecting the railway network, which has been sabotaged in recent months by rackets removing hundreds of meters of copper electricity cabling.

The aim of the patrols is dual – to protect commuters and prevent vandalism, according to TrainOSE.
