Home legalization scheme keeps drawing interest despite ruling
A recent decision by the Council of State deeming as “unconstitutional” a government initiative allowing owners of homes built outside zoning restrictions to legitimize their properties does not appear to have discouraged further applications for legalizing homes in recent weeks, Kathimerini understands.
Last week, the number of homeowners paying the initial fee to launch the process of legitimizing their property increased threefold to 32,650, according to Environment Ministry figures.
In the 19 months since the initiative was launched, some 389,000 homes built outside zoning restrictions have been inducted into the scheme, which raised some 600 million euros for the public coffers.
