Tsipras speaks out against Thessaloniki water privatization and Halkidiki gold mine
SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras spoke in Thessaloniki on Wednesday against the privatization of the local water company, EYATH.
He said that the ‘fight to save the water company is the fight for democracy.’
Earlier, Tsipras visited the village of Ierissos near the Skouries gold mine to express support for residents opposed to the project.
On the way there, he was stopped by a group of miners who handed him a petition in favor of the mine.
They also issued a statement criticizing him for not meeting with them and accusing him of being a ‘leftist leader who steps on the backs of the working class.’
