Ex-Cypriot minister and son wanted in Tsochatzopoulos trial arrested

Former Cypriot Interior Minister Dinos Michailides and his son, Michalis, were arrested on Cyprus on Monday after a European arrest warrant was issued for them so they can be questioned in Athens as part of the trial of former Greek Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos.

According to reports in Cyprus, Limassol district court will have 60 days to decide whether to extradite the two men to Greece.

Authorities in Greece believe that Michailides and his son helped move some of the money that Tsochatzopoulos allegedly received as bribes when he agreed to buy a Russian missile system. The two men deny the allegations.

Tsochatzopoulos and another 18 suspects are currently on trial in Athens for money laundering.
