Ministry probing report prison guard attended party thrown by fashion entrepreneur on release
A prosecutor is to investigate a newspaper report that a prison guard attended a party thrown by fashion entrepreneur Lakis Gavalas after he was released from custody following his arrest for tax evasion.
Proto Thema reported on Sunday that the prison guard was one of the guests at the party, which prompted the Justice Ministry to launch a disciplinary investigation, according to Naftemporiki’s website.
Last month, an Athens court handed a seven-year suspended sentence to Gavalas after he was found guilty of owing some 17 million euros to the state. His sister and business partner Nota received a six-year suspended sentence. She has since been re-arrested for separate debts.
