SYRIZA launches bid for united stand
SYRIZA launched its first congress Wednesday with the aim of becoming a single party rather than a collection of factions.
Party leader Alexis Tsipras gave the opening speech, repeating his demand that Greece renegotiate the terms of its bailout deal with its lenders.
Earlier, delegates at a conference held by Synaspismos, the main group within SYRIZA, voted to disband their coalition as part of the drive to create a single party. Of the 513 Synaspismos delegates, 505 voted in favour of closing down the leftist coalition.
