Skouries miner accused of attacking local resident

A group of residents protesting against the gold mine in Skouries, Halkidiki, on Tuesday accused a miner of attacking one of their members and damaging a car.

The Committees for the Halkidiki Struggle said that the miners had gathered at the square in the village of Megali Panaghia, where an argument broke out with protesters, culminating in one of the miners forcing his way into a home and injuring the owner.

The group said the victim had filed a suit against the miner.

Angelos Deligiovas, a workers’ representative at Hellenic Gold, the company operating the mine, said there had been an argument but denied that any of the miners entered the protester’s home.
