Second Athens mosque tender fails to attract interest

A second tender for the construction of a mosque near central Athens has failed to find any takers, it emerged on Thursday.

The Development Ministry tried for the second time in a week to find a firm to take on the building of the temple in Votanikos but did not attract any interest despite offering 946,000 euros for the project.

Industry sources suggested that construction firms are not showing interest because of fears about whether the state will live up to its financial commitments.

The ministry is due to announce a new date for a third tender.
