Absent ministry staff traced by labor inspectors
Checks by state labor inspectors on four ministries – the Administrative Reform, Interior, Culture and Tourism ministries – have revealed unjustified absences by several employees, authorities said on Thursday.
The Administrative Reform Ministry, which has been tasked with overseeing a civil service overhaul, appeared to have the worst record with 19 employees found to have been absent from their jobs without adequate justification for more than eight hours per month.
At the Interior Ministry, six employees were found to have been absent from their jobs for even longer periods, one for seven months and another for two years, a period during which he served as the head of a municipal organization.
At the general secretariat of the Culture Ministry, 69 percent of workers were found to have been absent without justification on numerous occasions while in the Tourism Ministry this applied to 77 percent of staff.
