Briton dies in Malia brawl

A 20-year-old British national died in the early hours of Tuesday of injuries sustained during a brawl in the notorious summer resort town of Malia in Iraklio, Crete.

The 20-year-old, whose name was not made immediately public, allegedly became involved in a violent altercation with other holidaymakers at the resort, which is notorious for attracting large numbers rowdy young foreign tourists, all-night parties and excessive alcohol consumption.

Local media suggested that the young man died from stab wounds sustained during the altercation, which took place outside a nightclub. He was dead when the ambulance crew reached the location of the fight, with witnesses reporting that a group of men, all believed to be British, fought violently outside a nightclub and fled when the 20-year-old fell to the ground.

Police are investigating the incident.
