Coast Guard officer dismissed over missing 100,000 euros

Merchant Marine Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis on Thursday ordered the dismissal of a coast guard officer over a shortfall in his department’s coffers of 100,000 euros that he confessed to embezzling.

The money went missing between July 2009 and June 2011, though its exact amount will not be known until the completion of an audit.
