Doctor accused over bribes

An orthopedic surgeon was due to face a prosecutor after allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of 300 euros in order to operate on a patient in an Attica hospital.

The patient, who had filed a complaint, handed the cash in marked notes to the doctor prior to the operation.

Police were also investigating a complaint filed by another patient who alleged that the doctor had demanded the sum of 1,200 euros, before settling for 600 euros, for an operation conducted in January this year.
