Man linked to 2010 rape while awaiting deportation

A 24-year-old Albanian national who was being held pending deportation from the country in the prefecture of Fthiotida, central Greece, is being transferred to Crete, where he is wanted for questioning in connection with rape charges that date back to 2010.

The unnamed suspect was arrested in Fthiotida on June 25 and was awaiting deportation while authorities ran his fingerprints through the nationwide database of suspects. The search revealed that the 24-year-old’s fingerprints had been collected by police investigating the rape of a minor in Crete, who was allegedly assaulted several times in August and September 2010.

A Lamia prosecutor on Friday ordered the suspect to be transferred to Hania in Crete, where he will have to answer to the rape charges.
