Romanian fugitive arrested on Mount Athos
A 23-year-old Romanian national wanted on a European arrest warrant was taken into custody on Wednesday by police in Karyes, the capital of the Mount Athos monastic community in northern Greece.
The arrest warrant was issued by Romanian authorities, who are seeking the suspect in connection with assault and larceny charges relating to a string of incidents that occurred in a village in Romania in May and July 2005.
A Thessaloniki appeals prosecutor will review the warrant issued for the 23-year-old and decide on his extradition.
