Wednesday’s central Greece quakes damage more than 300 homes

Two earthquakes measuring 4.1 and 5.1 on the Richter scale that struck the area of Amfikleia, central Greece, on Wednesday, and were followed by dozens of milder aftershocks, damaged more than 300 homes, local authorities said on Thursday after checks by state inspectors.

Of the damaged structures, around 50 are at risk of collapse and will be demolished in the coming days to avert possible injury or further damage at a later date, according to Thomas Staikos, regional governor of Fthiotida.

The aftershocks from Wednesday’s quake continued yesterday, with more than 130 recorded by seismologists.
