Man who shot policeman on Santorini arrested

A 40-year-old man being sought in connection with the shooting of a police officer on the island of Santorini last week was being questioned by police on Friday following his arrest in Corinth on Thursday.

The unnamed suspect had been driving to Athens when members of the police’s counter-terrorism department traced him and arrested him. A search on his home in Attica turned up a small quantity of drugs, police said without providing further details.

The 40-year-old, whose relatives have been detained by police in the past for a range of charges, is alleged to have shot at an off-duty police officer on Santorini three times following a row that broke out after he had left a nightclub. The officer was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his thigh.
