Scavengers find dead baby in rubbish dump in western Greece
A dead baby was found in the landfill used by the municipality of Andravida-Kyllini, western Greece, on Monday by Bulgarian scavengers who reported the grim discovery to local police.
The body, which had been wrapped in a bedsheet, was discovered amid a mass of garbage bags, according to police, who believe it may have been picked up by trash collectors from a dumpster in Kyllini.
The police chief for the Ilia prefecture, Aristides Andrikopoulos, launched an investigation into the circumstances of the infant’s death while a local coroner was examining the body.
