Man, 53, charged with sexually abusing dog

A 53-year-old man has been charged with sexually abusing a dog which on Tuesday remained in critical condition after its ordeal.

Following his arrest on Sunday, the Polish national was taken to court, denied raping the dog and is to reappear before the judge on Wednesday.

Witnesses said they saw the suspect getting into a car with a dog at the Olympic Village, north of Athens, and returning a few hours later with the animal in a

bloody and semi-conscious state.

The suspect allegedly admitted to taking the dog for a ride in his car but denied charges of abusing it. A medical examiner’s report suggested otherwise, however, showing signs that the female dog had been sexually abused. DNA samples of both the man and the dog were sent to a police laboratory for analysis.

The 53-year-old faces a year in jail and a 30,000-euro fine if convicted.
