Infant found dead in landfill was not still-born, coroner says
An infant whose body was found in a landfill used by the municipality of Andravida-Kyllini, western Greece, on Monday by Bulgarian scavengers, had not been still-born, a Patra coroner ruled on Tuesday.
According to the coroner’s report, the infant bore head injuries that might have been sustained during its birth or during its abandonment in a garbage dumpster.
The police chief for the Ilia prefecture, Aristides Andrikopoulos, has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the infant’s death.
The body had been wrapped in a bedsheet and was discovered amid a mass of garbage bags.
