Athens traffic police have work cut out in absence of municipal counterparts

The heavy workload for traffic police in Athens, who have to deal with illegal parking in the absence of the municipal police, continued on Monday, when 1,128 offenses were recorded.

The traffic police have had to step up their work after the municipal force was disbanded as part of the government’s overhaul of the public sector.

In 17 cases on Monday, license plates were removed from cars that had parked illegally.
