Women to testify over dead newborn found in landfill

Two women arrested on Tuesday over the discovery of the body of a newborn baby at a landfill in Ilia in the western Peloponnese will testify on Friday after they were charged with murder and infanticide.

The two suspects – a 44-year-old woman and her 20-year-old daughter, who is believed to be the mother of the baby – are thought to have abandoned the baby in a landfill used by the municipality of Andravida-Kyllini, where it died and was found by scavengers.

Their identities have not been made public.
