Bear sanctuary rejects far-right cash after outcry [update]
The Arcturos bear sanctuary said Tuesday that it had returned a 5,000-euro donation from the far-right Golden Dawn party, describing its original decision to accept the money as “a mistake.”
In a written statement released yesterday in the wake of an outcry that had followed reports of Golden Dawn donating the money, Arcturos stressed that it had never been associated with any political party in its 21 years of operation and would not change now, despite its cash flow problems.
“No financial need, however pressing, can be justifiably served through actions that create greater problems or give the wrong the impression to society,” the statement said.
