State to provide compensation for property damage caused by attacks on officials
MPs on Wednesday approved an amendment that will allow anyone whose property is damaged during a criminal or terrorist attack on a public official to claim compensation from the state.
The change was made after an explosive device was used to target a prosecutor in Larissa, central Greece, in July.
The new legislation allows victims to seek tax-free damages from their local authority.
“There was a gap in our legislation,” said Justice Minister Haralambos Athanasiou, adding that people who suffered damage during criminal attacks were not able to claim compensation until now.
