Three arrested at Athens university face illegal weapons charges

Three immigrants arrested following Wednesday’s police raid on the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) faced a prosecutor on Thursday who indicted them to trial on charges of illegal weapons possession.

The suspects – a Palestinian, a Kuwaiti national and a Lebanese – were detained after police confiscated a jerry can of fuel, pepper spray, a sledgehammer and wooden poles from the NTUA’s grounds.

Three Greeks were also detained but were later released without charge.

According to sources, two of the migrants are Kurds who have applied for political asylum while the third is in Greece illegally.
