Two injured by explosions at old wood factory near Thessaloniki

Three explosions rocked an abandoned wood processing factory in the region of Kalohori, near Thessaloniki, on Friday morning, injuring two people and causing serious damage.

The explosions, which occurred shortly after 9.30 a.m., were felt several kilometers away. According to initial reports, the blasts occurred in tanks of liquid gas.

It is believed that the two people who were injured may have been trying to steal some of the liquid gas stored in the old factory. An ambulance was called to the scene and transferred the pair to the nearest hospital.

The blast triggered a fire that was quickly brought under control to avoid it spreading to a nearby electricity sub-station.

The exact circumstances of the blasts were being investigated.
