Two Interior Ministry staff indicted for disciplinary offenses
Interior Minister Yiannis Michelakis on Friday sought the indictment to a disciplinary council of two employees from his own ministry.
The first employee is a senior manager and is being indicted after allegedly intervening in order to assign a municipal development project to a company in which his wife is involved. The ministry employee is alleged to have exploited his position to illicitly secure a license for the project.
The second case relates to another employee of the Interior Ministry who is accused of being unjustifiably absent from his job from May 1 to August 1 of this year. The same employee was arrested at Atlanta airport on April 30 trying to smuggle two Albanian nationals with Greek passports into the US. He is currently in pre-trial custody in the US where he faces trial on criminal charges.
