Thessaloniki squatters cleared

Seven people arrested earlier this week when police in Thessaloniki raided a squat in the northern port city were on Friday cleared of all charges by a local court.

The accused, six men and one women, were found innocent of illegally occupying the Megas Alexandros orphanage in the Ano Toumba neighborhood.

The building is used by the Thessaloniki bishopric and a representative told the court that the squatters helped maintain the premises and pay the bills.
