Repousi wants religious education scrapped
Maria Repousi on Friday stood behind her position that religious education should be dropped from the school curriculum after a church spokesman lashed out the Democratic Left deputy’s “obsessive fixations.”
Speaking to Vima FM Friday, Repousi, who has in the past come under fire for her allegedly revisionist views, said the proposal was part of a broader education reform advocated by her socialist party.
She said critics chose to take her statement out of context because it served their conspiracy theories that “some people out there are working to dismantle the nation and national identity.”
Church of Greece spokesman Haris Konidaris had earlier attacked Repousi, saying that her “fixations have no place in a modern, social and progressive Greece.”
