Larco workers take protest against mining company’s sale to Athens streets

Employees at state mining firm Larco, which is facing privatization, protested in central Athens on Tuesday morning.

The firm’s staff oppose the company’s sale and chanted “It’s not just Larco that’s for sale, but the whole of Greece”.

Larco is one of three companies, along with Hellenic Defense Systems (EAS) and the Hellenic Vehicle Industry (ELVO) that the troika is pushing Athens to either liquidate or sell as they produce combined losses of 150 million euros per year.

The troika rejected the government’s plans to liquidate ELVO and EAS while they are still in operation. The coalition is due to submit a new plan this week.
