Supreme Court judge orders probe into new prisons construction costs
Supreme Court judge Efterpi Goutzamani has ordered a brobe regarding the construction cost of six new prison facilities across Greece.
The investigation was launched by Goutzamani following a report in Kathimerini’s Sunday edition with regard to the construction of prisons in the towns of Trikala, Domokos, Serres, Grevena, Drama and Hania.
According to the Kathimerini report, while the construction of all six prisons was based on the same study and the buildings were identical, the Hania facility ended up costing considerably less than the other five.
The report noted that while the construction of the five facilities came to about 30 million euros per prison, the Hania project cost about 10 million euros less.
