Great Greek theater director celebrated by Google
A scene from an ancient Greek drama marks Google’s celebration of Karolos Koun with a doodle for Greece on September 13, the late great Greek theater director’s 105th birthday.
Koun (1908-1987) was best known for his inspired revivals of ancient Greek comedies and dramas, which he reintroduced to the public through his Theatro Technis (Art Theater), an institution in Greece that has turned out some of the country’s finest stage talent.
“Our doodle in Greece today celebrates Karolos Koun, theater director and founder of the experimental Art Theater, who was known for his bold, expressive stagings of Aristophanes’ comedies and other ancient Greek plays,” Google said on Twitter.
