Police release statistics on crime around Greece
Robberies in Greece were down 17 percent in the first eight months of the year compared to 2012, police said on Friday.
Break-ins also fell by 16.8 percent, according to the data published by the force.
Officers also solved 88.6 percent of the murder cases between January and August, which totaled 219 – 31 fewer than last year.
In contrast, there has been a surge in smuggling cases, which rose by almost 70 percent in the first eight months of the year.
Begging also went up by 135 percent and gun crime increased by 37.7 percent.
There was a 20.8 percent spike in the number of cases relating to money forgery.
