Venizelos talks Cyprus, name row with Kerry in US

Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos had the opportunity to discuss Greece’s positions on Cyprus and the Macedonia name dispute when he met Friday with US Secretary of State John Kerry on the sidelines of the United Nations general assembly in New York.

The talks came at the same time that Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades was meeting US Vice President Joe Biden in Washington. Biden said President Barack Obama’s administration favors a bizonal, bicommunal solution to the island’s separation.

Venizelos is due to address the UN on Saturday and will make it clear that Athens will back Anastasiades in Cyprus peace talks that are due to start next month or in November.
