Greek police arrest Golden Dawn Party leader and a party lawmaker
Greek police have arrested Nikos Michaloliakos, the leader of the far-right Golden Dawn Party, on charges of forming a criminal organization.
“The Secretary General and one lawmaker of the Golden Dawn Party were arrested a short while ago after arrest warrants were issued,” police said in a statement early on Saturday.
The lawmaker is Ilias Kasidiaris, reports said.
Warrants for the arrest of another five Golden Dawn parliament deputies have been issued. The police counter-terrorism squad is reportedly looking for the MPs. More warrants are expected.
Developments have come in the wake of the murder of anti-racist musician, Pavlos Fyssas, on September 18.
