GD’s No. 2 Pappas joins fellow MPs in prison [UPDATE]

Golden Dawn’s second-in-command, Christos Pappas, was transferred to the capital’s high-security Korydallos Prison on Friday following his marathon testimony before an investigating magistrate probing charges leveled by prosecutors who describe the ultra-right party as a criminal organization.

Pappas reportedly denied all charges and asked not to be remanded in custody as he wished to visit Parliament. Both a prosecutor and magistrate, however, decided that he should be transferred to prison pending trial, deeming him to be both a flight risk and likely to re-offend. Leaving court, the MP said Golden Dawn would “become a river and drown the traitors.”

Pappas was put in the women’s wing of Korydallos where Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos and the party’s MP for Piraeus, Yiannis Lagos, were transferred on Thursday.
