Golden Dawn spokesman calls decision to remand fellow MPs ‘political crime’

Golden Dawn’s spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris, one of three MPs released on Wednesday in a surprise decision by the judiciary, on Friday described the decision to remand the leader of the ultra-right party Nikos Michaloliakos, GD’s second-in-command Christos Pappas and the party’s MP in Piraeus Yiannis Lagos as «a political crime.» «There is no incriminating evidence against the leader and other members of Golden Dawn,» he said. «Instead of jailing the thieves, the people who stole public money with their offshore firms, they are jailing people who strived for an independent Greece,» he said.

Speaking during a show broadcast on the party’s web television channel, Kasidiaris said Golden Dawn had «put a bomb in the foundations of the political system.» «We enraged Jews, Americans and European usurers,» he said.

Kasidiaris, who struck out at photographers and reporters immediately after his release on bail on Wednesday on crime charges, faces a separate trial for assaulting two leftist MPs, both women, on live television in June 2012.
