Gov’t, leftist SYRIZA clash again over Golden Dawn

The main leftist opposition party SYRIZA on Friday accused the government spokesman, Simos Kedikoglou, of distorting statements by SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras relating to the government’s crackdown on the ultra-right Golden Dawn.

In a statement, the party accused Kedikoglou of «an unprecedented attempt at distortion» of statements by Tsipras to Euronews following the leftist leader’s comment that the conditional release earlier this week of GD spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris and his fellow MPs Ilias Panagiotaros and Nikos Michos was «not in keeping with a sense of justice.» SYRIZA accused the government spokesman of falsely adding to Tsipras’ statement that the subsequent decision to remand GD leader Nikos Michaloliakos in custody was also «not in keeping with a sense of justice.»

Kedikoglou issued a brief statement suggesting that Tsipras was «out of time» and that he favored «democracy a la carte.”
