Golden Dan MP, 10 others on trial over Messolonghi market raid
Golden Dawn MP Costas Barbarousis (photo) is due to stand trial in Mesolongi on Tuesday along with 10 other members of the far-right party in connection to their destruction of migrants’ stalls at an open-air market in the Peloponnesian town in September 2012.
The 11 suspects are accused of usurping authority, damaging property and violent behavior.
Kathimerini understands that prosecutors will also invike a 1979 anti-racism law in their case against the deputy and his alleged accomplices.
On Saturday, a 37-year-old man believed to have played a key role in the murder of rapper Pavlos Fyssas last month was remanded in custody.
The man is suspected of being at the cafe where Fyssas and his friends were before they were attacked by Golden Dawn members and supporters.
The 37-year-old is alleged to have been the one who notified the others to gather in Amfiali to assault Fyssas and his friends.
Also on Saturday, the wife and mother-in-law of Giorgos Roupakias, who murdered Fyssas, were released from custody.
