Sotiria hospital workers’ union head faces prosecutor
The head of the union representing workers at Sotiria Hospital in northeastern Athens, who is alleged to have demanded 50,000 euros from the hospital director to call off a protest by workers, appeared before a prosecutor on Tuesday and was given until Thursday to prepare his defense before an investigating magistrate.
The remaining members of the Sotiria union have called an assembly for Thursday when they are to vote on ousting the 45-year-old from the union’s leadership.
Meanwhile, the umbrella union representing hospital workers across Greece (POEDIN) called for the unnamed unionist to be given an exemplary punishment.
A police search on the unionist’s home turned up several weapons.
