Tsochatzopoulos refuses to recognize court verdict, will appeal

Jailed ex-Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos says he does not recognize the 20-year sentence handed down to him for money laundering and will appeal against it.

In a statement, Tsochatzopoulos accused the judges of succumbing to “interventions from above”. He also claimed his conviction was being used to cover up other scandals involving PASOK and New Democracy.

Another 16 people, including the former minister’s daughter, wife and ex-wife, were sentenced for involvement in his acceptance of bribes, which were moved to off-shore companies and used to buy properties.
