Public Order minister assures intelligence service not bugging political parties
Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias has waded into a government row with SYRIZA over the National Intelligence Service (EYP). He said it is not “monitoring political parties and eavesdropping on their conversations.”
Dendias issued the statement on Wednesday after SYRIZA asked for clarifications on who EYP is watching.
It has emerged that the service wiretapped Golden Dawn members and MPs. The leader of ultranationalist LAOS, Giorgos Karatzaferis, claimed this week he knew of a SYRIZA MP being snooped on.
The government accused SYRIZA of engaging in gossip.
However, New Democracy MP Aris Spiliotopoulos also tabled a question in Parliament asking for more information about EYP’s procedures for eavesdropping.
