NATO’s Rasmussen in Athens for two-day visit

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen is expected in Athens Thursday for a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and other high-ranking officials.

Rasmussen, who will spend two days in the Greek capital, is scheduled to hold talks with Greek President Karolos Papoulias on Thursday before meeting with Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos.

The two men are expected to discuss issues of regional and international concern following Venizelos’s trips to the US and Israel. The meeting will be followed by statements to the media at 7 p.m. and a working dinner.

On Friday Samaras will receive NATO’s chief at the government headquarters at Maximos Mansion. Rasmussen will earlier meet with Greece’s Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos. A press briefing has been scheduled for 11.30 a.m.
